Research in our lab aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate communication between the fungal biotrophic pathogen Ustilago maydis and its host plant maize. This specific project will use genetic, cell biological and biochemical approaches to identify and characterize components within the fungal protein homeostasis network of the unfolded protein response (UPR) with impact on fungal virulence and fungal plant communication.
