This position should be filled as soon as possible and is offered for a period of three years according to German public service pay grade 13 TV-L (65 %).

Your Duties
• Research on a project within the frame work of the International Research Training Group (IRTG) PRoTECT (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/529150.html).

Research in our lab aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate communication between the fungal biotrophic pathogen Ustilago maydis and its host plant maize. This specific project will use genetic, cell biological and biochemical approaches to identify and characterize components within the fungal protein homeostasis network of the unfolded protein response (UPR) with impact on fungal virulence and fungal plant communication.
The project is integrated in the DFG funded International Research Training Group 2172 PRoTECT that comprises research groups from Goettingen and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver/Canada, and will be conducted in collaboration with our Canadian colleagues. Furthermore, the program offers many opportunities for the improvement of scientific and personal skills.

Your Profile
• highly qualified degree (Master/Diploma) and expertise in the area of Fungal Biology/Genetics and/or Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions
• highly motivated and enthusiastic about the research area
• excellent skills in spoken and written English
• willingness to spend part of the PhD work at UBC in Vancouver/Canada
