Increasing evidence suggests that neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in the pathophysiological changes underlying Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A position is currently available to study the role of STAT (signal transducer and activator of transcription) proteins in AD-associated neuroinflammation in transgenic mouse models. STAT proteins are potent regulators of inflammatory gene expression and play a central role in the regulation of inflammatory responses. The candidate will use different STAT1 mutant and conditional knock-out mouse models to elucidate the function of STAT1 especially in microglial cells.
The position is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), offers a TV-L E13 (65%) salary and is available for 3 years.

Our research methods combine:
* In vivo behavioral studies
* Histological techniques such as micro- and cryotomy, immunohistochemistry and light- and fluorescence microscopy
* A variety of protein biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology techniques such as qPCR, immunoblotting, ELISAs etc.

The successful candidate will hold a qualified diploma or M.Sc. in biology, biochemistry or related fields, with a strong background in neuroscience or related topics and is experienced in molecular biology and cell biology techniques. The ideal candidate is proficient in working with engineered mouse models (FELASA B qualification or equivalent).

We offer a PhD position with salary according to TV-L E13 (65%). The candidate will be working in an in innovative, well-equipped and scientifically stimulating environment and will be involved in a graduate PhD program at the University of Göttingen (such as Göttingen Graduate Center for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and molecular Biosciences GGNB).
