Two PhD scholarships by DAAD
The DFG-funded International Research Training Group 2466 “Network, exchange, and training program to understand plant resource allocation” (iGRAD-Plant) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf has been awarded two full PhD scholarships by the Graduate School
Scholarship Program (GSSP) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The
scholarship is reserved for non-German applicants. Especially applicants from emerging and
developing countries are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will conduct their
PhD according to the study and research program of the iGRAD-Plant graduate program.
iGRAD-Plant is offering an international PhD program with excellent research possibilities for
young scientists in the area of Molecular Plant Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics. iGRAD-Plant is a joint program with the Research Center Jülich and the Genetics and
Genome Sciences Graduate program of the Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA.
The scholarship includes:
• Monthly payments of 1,200 euros for up to four years
• Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
• Travel allowance (depending on country of origin)
• Annual research allowance of up to 460 euros
• If applicable: monthly rent subsidy
• If applicable: monthly allowance for accompanying members of family (about 200 euros child
allowance per child; about 275 euros marriage allowance)
• The host graduate school can receive an annual material resource and supervision allowance
(1000 euros)
Requirements:
• Applicants of non-German nationality (not living in Germany for longer than 12 month at time
of application deadline)
• Excellent Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related field (degree
must be completed at the latest by the time candidates begin their scholarship but not longer
than 6 years ago)
• Proficient English language skills

The starting date of the PhD projects is flexible between spring and fall 2021.
