The Department of Biology at the Graduate School Life Science Engineering at @TUDarmstadt offers a #PhD position

PhD position in the Stem Cell and Developmental Biology group (Prof. Ulrike Nuber)

The Biology Department of the TU Darmstadt (Darmstadt University of Technology), Germany, invites applications for a PhD position (salary grade 50% E13 TV-TU Darmstadt) in the Stem Cell and Developmental Biology group. The appointment is for three years.

Our lab is working on brain disorders that are caused by genetic changes and affect the early development of children. These changes cause gene expression alterations and pathological cell states that result in a disturbed spatial development of brain tissue.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative person who is interested in molecular neurobiology.

We offer an open, supportive, dynamic and motivating academic environment and cutting edge research projects. Postdoctoral scientists and technical staff in our lab provide excellent scientific and technical support for this PhD project. We apply a broad spectrum of methods: primary mouse and human iPS cell culture, various cell-based assays, animal models, genome editing by the CRISPR/Cas system, viral vector-based gene delivery, qRT-PCR, FACS, immunofluorescence stainings, immunohistochemistry, light, epifluorescence and confocal microscopy, image analyses, RNA in situ hybridization, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A Master degree in a relevant field (e.g. biology, biotechnology, molecular medicine, biochemistry).
  • Profound knowledge in neuroscience is not required.
  • Very good molecular methods and biochemistry skills.
  • Strong ambition to develop into an independent scientist.
  • Experience with mice as a model organism/mammalian cell culture is of advantage.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Very good English language skills.
