The INP is collaborating with the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis on the project ‘Supporting Climate Protection – From Renewable Hydrogen and Aerobic CO2 to Methanol’ (SUPREME). For our team, we are seeking to hire for the location in Greifswald/Germany starting from January 1st 2021 a
DOCTORAL STUDENT (F/M/D)
PLASMA-ASSISTED CO2-TO-MeOH CONVERSION
Fixed term contract for 3 years / Part-time appointment (27 hours/week) / Target salary: TV-L/E13
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The urgent need to stop global warming caused by CO2 requires a paradigm shift from fossil to sustainable energy carriers and processes. Nonthermal plasma (NTP) can activate stable molecules such as CO2 at ambient pressure and low temperatures. A dedicated reactor system containing a plasma source in combination with a catalyst bed will be developed.
In this way, the greenhouse gas CO2 is reduced and added to a chemical value chain. The aim is to develop a more efficient method for the conversion of CO2 into methanol.
– Investigate plasma-assisted methanol formation from CO2 and H2;
– Develop reliable experimental systems and procedures;
– Carry out chemical, electrical and optical diagnostics of the process;
– Derive and evaluate process parameters;
– Carry out documentation, communication and presentation of results.
YOUR PROFILE:
– Very good university-level qualification (e.g. MSc degree or equivalent) in the fields of plasma technology, physics, chemistry, environmental sciences or similar topics
– Interest in experimental research
– Excellent team working and communication skills
– Fluency in written and spoken English
– Structured, committed and self-motivated
– Previous experience with at atmospheric pressure are welcome.
OUR OFFER FOR YOU:

– Creative work environment
– State-of-the-art technical facilities
– Doctorate tandem: Experienced and professional assistance throughout your PhD
– Opportunities for professional development (e.g. project management, acquisition of third-party funding)
– Networking opportunities at national and international conferences and in cooperation with national and international industry partners
– Possibility of designing and implementing own project ideas
– In-house German course free of charge
– Flexible working hours and home-office offers
– 30 vacation days per year (plus: December 24 and 31)
– Sports courses in our institute rooms
ABOUT INP
Our institute ranks among the largest and most modern institutions in the field of low-temperature plasmas worldwide. In an international working environment, we conduct socially relevant research within our core areas Materials & Energy and Environment & Health. Currently the INP employs about 200 scientists and staff at three locations (Greifswald, Rostock and Karlsburg).
