Master Student Life Sciences (R0)
Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Spain
Deadline:30 Nov 2020
Context and Mission
The Computational Biology group, led by ICREA professor Alfonso Valencia, is looking for a Master student to work on deep generative models for paediatric oncology. The project will be in the context of the use of deep learning approaches to generate synthetic data aimed at augmenting the sample size of the paediatric cancers under study in the individualizedPaediatricCure (iPC) H2020-EU project (Ref. 826121).
The successful candidate will complete a master’s thesis, addressing the following topics: evaluate the use of deep generative models in the context of paediatric oncology, including approaches based on autoencoders, adversarial networks, graph embeddings, and meta-learning; incorporating and expanding the application of such methods to produce biologically meaningful synthetic datasets; and using these sythetic datasets to study paediatric cancers and support existing analytical approaches developed in the iPC project.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research group within the Life Sciences department, which integrates independent senior scientists that work on various aspects of computational biology, ranging from bioinformatics for genomics and proteomics to computational biochemistry and text mining. The Researcher will work in a highly sophisticated HPC environment, will have access to systems and computational infrastructures, and will establish collaborations with experts in different areas.
